2009 WICA AUCTION

AucThanks.jpg

Letter From WICA President

February 23, 2009
TO:  Water Islanders
FROM:  Chuck Gidley, President, Water Island Civic Association
Subject:  2009 WICA Auction

On behalf of the Water Island residents and guests at the 2009 Auction, I would like to especially thank Marion Wilkinson, along with her support team, for running a most successful auction.  An auction does not run itself and Marion spent countless hours organizing the event, while Lee Shaffer did another super job as auctioneer.  Many neighbors collected donations from merchants; other neighbors helped with setting up/taking down; Heidi donated the use of chairs and tables; Joe Harris donated the use of the PA system; Mercy Blosser and Jackie Coleman ran the registration/cashier table; Wally Henshaw ran the PA system; Bob Blosser entered all transactions in the computer; and so many others contributed behind the scenes.  And of course, we thank all the bidders that helped the Water Island Civic Association raise money.

Bravo to Marion and her sidekick Jim.

WOW! What an Auction!

The 2009 Water Island Civic Association

Auction was a phenomenal success!

09auction1a.jpg

Posted February 22, 2009     On Saturday, February 21st, the Water Island Civic Association held their Annual Auction and it was a huge success. This was due entirely to the tireless efforts given by all the volunteers.

The day was started off with Wally Henshaw sharing the history of the Auction with the attendees. He explained how it started about 23 years ago as a private gathering on Shaf & Anne Shaffer's lawn as a picnic. He went on to explain the evolution and how it has grown and was now conducted by the Water Island Civic Association with all proceeds going to improve the quality of life for all Water Islanders and visitors.

The Shaffer connection remained intact this year as it was held at Shaffer Hall on Honeymoon Beach and the stellar auctioneer was none other than Lee Shaffer, Shaf & Anne's son. As usual, Lee did an outstanding job of getting people to bid, have fun, and raise some money.

A big "Thanks" goes to everyone that helped to set up, prepare food, serve food, tend the bar, pick up big donated items, spent time at the pavilion accepting donations, promoting the event, and helped throughout the day in innumerable ways.

This year the Chairman of the Auction Committee was Marion Wilkinson, helped greatly by Co-Chairs Jackie Coleman and Mercy Blosser. They did a fantastic job. When you see them next make sure you give them a big pat on the back!
