Waste Transfer Site Clean Up . . . . . . Again!

Posted October 29, 2008 In August of this year Waste Management and Public Works hauled off over 250 cubic yards of trash. A great deal of it was construction debris.
Last week they had to return to do the same thing. There was at least a 6 foot high pile of construction debris at the Waste Transfer Site.
The above picture was taken a few days after the latest clean up and you can see that more debris is already on the ground.
If a homeowner / property owner is having major construction done, please rent your own trash bin. It is the law. If a contractor is found to be placing trash / construction debris on the ground there could be a fine of up to $1000 for each occurrence.
If you are an absentee homeowner that has hired a contractor please make sure that the contractor rents their own trash bin and have it placed at the construction site.
Please, do not place trash or construction debris on the ground. Thank you!
Swim Dock Repair

Posted October 22, 2008 As you can see from the above photo, the WISAR swim dock at Honeymoon Beach was badly damaged and ended up on shore after Hurricane Omar. Hopefully it will be back before "Season" starts.

Waste Transfer Site Clean-Up
Posted August 6, 2008 Water Island is lighter by 250 yards of trash! The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority arrived on Water Island August 1st and was here until August 4th cleaning up our mess at the Trash Transfer Site. Eleven (11) overflowing dumpsters of trash were taken off the Island. Again, we must thank Department of Public Works Commissioner, Mr. Darryl Smalls, for instigating the clean-up.
Now that the site is clean, please let us all - residents, guests, contractors, try very hard to keep it this way.

Very Important Information
Please Read --
Posted March 30, 2008
1/ We have been informed by the Department of Public Works that vehicles and trailers should not be permanently parked along public roads. This includes the “dump” road. These vehicles must be moved to the owner’s property. The Department of Public Works will be over to check on this.
2/ Because of the dangerous condition of the temporary dock, the Commissioner of Public Works is going to expedite the opening of the new dock on or about April 4 – 7th. After the permanent dock is open they will remove the temporary dock for much needed repairs. The repairs will take at least a week. All dinghys and boats must be removed from the temporary dock immediately after the new dock is open. After being repaired the temporary dock should be returned.

HUGE SUCCESS!!!

Posted March 27, 2008 The Water Island Civic Association Ice Cream Social held last night, March 26th, was a big success! There were 635 people that showed up!! (Well, maybe not that many, but for the people making the Sundaes and Banana Splits it probably felt that way.) Everyone had a smile on their face and a belly full of Ice Cream. It was nice for the whole Water Island Family to get together and enjoy some fabulous desserts. A BIG "Thank You!" goes out to Marion Wilkinson who organized and planned the event and to all of the WICA members that worked so hard to make it a fun night! For more pictures of the festivities, click here.

Gasoline Delivery to Water Island a Huge Success
"You might of thought they were giving the gasoline away, what with all the smiling faces!" Our first bi-weekly gasoline delivery took place at the Deep Water Dock on Saturday, February 2nd and the response by Water island residents was overwhelming. Caribbean Petroleum was happy with the turn-out and is looking forward to coming back. Many of our residents indicated that they had never had the needle on their gas gauge read "Full" before! Another bonus to the day was that Caribbean Petroleum decided to match the price at the fuel dock at Crown Bay Marina! You cannot beat that.
So as not to conflict with our yearly Auction on February 16th, the next gasoline delivery will be Saturday, February 23rd, 8:30 - 12noon FILL 'ER UP!
Many residents asked if they were going to bring diesel fuel over. According to Mark, an employee of Caribbean Petroleum, he will mention it to the owners. If you are interested in having diesel fuel brought over please leave a comment on the "Comments" page of this website!

Gov. John deJongh's Msg to Water Island in 2008 State of the Territory Address
Wednesday, January 23rd 2008
To the residents of Water Island, I would like to assure you that our efforts to provide an appropriate dock facility continue. I was pleased to receive the report that the boat ramps have been poured and that we are only a month or two away from completion. And we are mindful of the many basic services that are provided by the community on a volunteer basis, and for which more funding by government is needed and required. We have also received the planning study with respect to broader land-use questions from the University of the Virgin Islands and trust that this will prove useful as we move ahead.
A complete copy of the address is available from the Virgin Islands Daily News
